NVIDIA, which dominates the AI chip market with an [estimated](https://arxiv.org/abs/2402.08797) 80 to 95 percent share, shipped an estimated [1.5 to 2 million NVIDIA H100s](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-to-reportedly-triple-output-of-compute-gpus-in-2024-up-to-2-million-h100s) in 2024 – the H100 being its most advanced chip that year – a threefold increase over 2023.¹. Other AI chips, like those made by NVIDIA, are graphics processing units (GPUs) – chips designed to more generally execute mathematical operations in a highly parallel manner.³.
