Launched atop [Falcon 9](https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/falcon-9) on May 30, 2020, [Dragon](https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/dragon) ‘s second demonstration flight test to and from the space station restored human spaceflight to the United States for the first time in almost a decade. On Saturday, May 30, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launched Crew Dragon’s second demonstration [(Demo-2)](https://www.spacex.com/static/images/backgrounds/demo2patch_final.png) mission from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley aboard the spacecraft. In March 2019, SpaceX completed an end-to-end [test flight of Crew Dragon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-wBgsf8jWY&feature=youtu.be) without NASA astronauts onboard, making Dragon the first American spacecraft to autonomously dock with the International Space Station and safely return to Earth. Additionally, SpaceX and NASA have jointly executed a [series of mission simulations](https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-spacex-simulate-upcoming-crew-mission-with-astronauts/) from launch and docking to departure and landing, an [end-to-end demonstration of pad rescue operations](https://blogs.nasa.gov/commercialcrew/2020/04/07/nasa-spacex-team-up-for-emergency-egress-exercise/) , and a fully integrated test of critical crew flight hardware on the Demo-2 Crew Dragon spacecraft with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley participating in their Demo-2 spacesuits.
